The Garth

The Garth at Fairmount was formed when the Sanctuary was added to the original Tudor style building. The completion of the Chapel in the mid 50's completely enclosed the garden. Today the Garth serves as a quiet retreat for small groups and individuals. Benches and a canopied table provide a pleasant respite from busy lives.

What is a 'garth', anyway?

n.
1. A grassy quadrangle surrounded by cloisters.
2. Archaic A yard, garden, or paddock.
[Middle English, enclosed yard, from Old Norse gardhr.
